The Vaccine Production and R&D Technician/Scientist will assist the Kirkland team in producing vet exempt vaccines for AquaTactics clients and assisting in developing new vaccines. The candidate will also assist the team in other microbiological work, including diagnostic analysis and R&D work relating to fish health.


Key Role Specifics

Production

  • Assist in the production of vaccines, batching, etc.
  • Follow production procedures to meet QA/QC requirements; protocols, standard operating procedures
  • Continue to improve vaccines production efficiencies
  • Liaise with other production sites and assist in production planning


R&D

  • Assist with R&D activities relevant to vaccine development, including development and production of viral and plasmid vaccines
  • Develop new bacterial and viral cell cultures for vaccine production
  • General laboratory upkeep and management of equipment and clean room environment
  • Participate and present at various fish health conferences nationally and globally as needed


Other

  • Assist and help field personnel with occasional sample collection and submission
  • Participate in all aspects of the company (products and services) as needed and available
  • Assist with liaising with aquaculture diagnosticians and veterinarians as needed
  • Develop skills in microbiology and virology and fish diagnostics
  • General office work, including answering the phone and preparing reports
  • Assist with shipping products to customers from Kirkland production site

Other Requirements

Essential:

  • 2 + years work experience in a lab environment
  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, or virology
  • Experience in growing organisms in a lab environment
  • Good aseptic technique
  • Interest in aquatic and animal healthcare
  • Interest to develop skills in microbiology and virology and fish diagnostics
  • Experience working within laboratory and manufacturing environments within a regulated industry
  • Self-starter with high energy level, ability to multi-task and willingness to learn
  • Plans and prioritizes work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals
  • Personable and able to interact and socialize amongst different cultures and levels in an organization
  • Strong verbal, presentation and writing skills in English required
  • Ability to attract and develop talent, and build effective teams
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office.


Desired:

  • Experience in commercial plasmid production
  • Experience relating to bacterial and virial culture experience
  • Knowledge of fish health diagnostics
  • Advanced graduate in microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, or virology
  • Basic statistical knowledge for clinical trials
