Reporting to the VP of Operations, this role is responsible for leading procurement for all Bimeda subsidiaries in North America and a small portion of Europe by being the primary point of contact for material supply, seeking out the best business partnerships to deliver key exceptional value, quality and service to our internal customers. The Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager will be the subject matter expert in streamlining groupwide procurement workflows, improving the availability and quality of APIs and materials. The Sourcing Manager is responsible for categories with spending responsibility of up to $70m and providing new ideas and leadership to secure best market value through process improvement, demand management and sourcing initiatives. In this role the Sourcing Manager will prepare and analyze moderate to complex category sourcing projects, provide recommendations, lead negotiations and implementation for the award of business to third party vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Primary point of contact for agents, distributor and manufacturers.
  2. Thought leader and champion for developing sourcing strategies including alternatives for new sources of commercial supply of APIs to manage risk that are aligned and updated according to changing business requirements and supply landscape.
  3. Responsible for procurement-related policies, processes, systems and tools for North America (90%) and for Europe (10%).
  4. Identify and determine vendors through RFP analysis and customer requirements.
  5. Negotiate terms and conditions with vendors, service level agreements and statement of work.
  6. Finalize agreements with vendors specifying price, duration, creation and negotiation of formal contracts.
  7. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with third party vendors while effectively resolving vendor performance/capability issues to ensure alignment with Bimeda expectations.
  8. Manage and optimize supplier performance, including contract compliance, continuous improvement, innovations and reduction in total cost of ownership.
  9. Keep informed of technology offerings and market trends that facilitate the purchasing of indirect goods/services both domestically and globally to reduce the total cost of ownership. Keep informed of public procurement regulations to ensure appropriate levels of corporate governance.
  10. Affect improvements in sourcing processes through digitization and simplification including management/employee communication, policy recommendations or management dashboards.
  11. Achieve significant cost reductions by continually reviewing existing and potential new suppliers, while managing price risk and maintaining / improving product quality and vendor service levels. 
  12. Support the R&D partners by identifying high quality, cost competitive sources for APIs for projects. This includes the procurement of API samples, scale up material and technical information needed for evaluation through development.
  13. Establish close working relationships with Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance and Corporate Legal.
  14. Develop Group KPI’s to drive sourcing excellence, including risk assessment, savings and benefits realisation. Report regularly on performance against KPIs
  15. Any other duties as assigned.

Role Requirements, Skills and Capabilities:

Essential:

  • Minimum 7 years experience in a variety of progressive sourcing and procurement roles in a Regulated Pharmaceutical or life sciences environment with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership role managing direct reports 
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Chemistry, Pharmacy, or related field
  • Previous Business Development Experience
  • Knowledge of APIs, excipients, and packaging gained through experience or education in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of procurement and supply chain methodologies on a national and international level; from intent, to purchase, to delivery.
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong understanding of contract language, laws and regulations relating to procurement and contracts.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative leader that can drive change
  • Persuasive, motivational, persistent
  • Effective at working in a fast- paced environment, specifically in a leadership capacity
  • Strong verbal, presentation and writing skills with a strong emphasis on report writing

  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%.

Desirable:

  • supply chain, materials and operations, finance, or related field Knowledge of cGMP.
  • Project management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge, experience and understanding of various ERP systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of logistics and broadline distribution.
