The purpose of a Modified Live Virus Production Scientist is to produce USDA licensed Modified Live Viral Vaccines according to the filed Outline of Production.


Role Responsibilities

  • Can effectively perform all duties and skills associated with Virus Production Technician I & II.
  • Train and delegate daily responsibilities to all levels of Production Technicians per the guidance of the Virus Production Supervisor.
  • Assist the Virus Production Supervisor, Scientist III – Lead, and Scientist II in all cell and viral propagation activities: must be able to work independently on certain tasks associated with these activities, such as filling roller bottles and harvesting viral fluids.
  • Assist the Virus Production Supervisor, Scientist III – Lead, and Scientist II in fabricating and filling serials of MLV Vaccines: must acquire skills and training to do basic troubleshooting on the machine when errors occur.
  • Aid in the identification and recommendation of any needed equipment and materials for MLV production.
  • Work directly with the Virus Production Supervisor, Scientist III – Lead, and Scientist II to optimize MLV harvest yields and potency of virus vaccines.
  • Maintain viral harvest fluid inventory in accordance with the filed Outlines of Production.
  • Aid in the training of personnel in areas associated with Virus Production such as media production, sucrose production, HBSS production and blend prep: Required to produce reagents at times when technicians are pulled to different priorities.
  • Oversee the maintenance of Liquid Nitrogen Inventory for cells and virus by technicians.
  • Interface with USDA compliance officers during facility inspections as required.
  • Ensure that general cleanliness and records are being kept up to date on hoods, incubators and other equipment associated with virus production.
  • Interface with Research and Development team & Technical Transition Team as projects transition to production.

Role Requirements:

Essential:

 

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Some work experience or classroom experience in a laboratory environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong math and computer skills (including MS Office)
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of analytical instruments
  • Highly motivated and able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Able to work effectively cross-functionally with all other departments and build trust through active collaborations.
  • Good command of the English language.

Desirable:

  • 2+ years prior work experience in vaccine related field and/or laboratory environment.
  • Positive can-do attitude and willingness to be flexible when project priorities change.
