Role Summary:

The purpose of a Virus Production Technician is to provide support, as assigned, in the production of USDA licensed Viral Vaccines according to filed Outlines of Production. Employee must incorporate their working knowledge of science, laboratory applications, and production processes in meeting established performance expectations.


Shift Schedule :

  • Monday - Friday : 8:am - 5:00pm ( May require early starts on Thursdays at 6:00am)
  • Requires rotational weekend every month and a half.


Key Role Specific Requirement :

  • Works closely with other department personnel to ensure that production processes are completed in a safe, compliant, and timely manner.
  • Wears proper personal protective equipment and follows established aseptic techniques, and standard operating procedures when gowning, disgowning
    and working in the production/fabrication areas.
  • Sterilization of production areas and equipment – cleaning and organization. Assures supplies, facilities, and equipment have been sterilized and ready for use for production teams and QC department.
  • Assists with labelling and packaging.
  • Responsible for daily temperature logs and observing/recording varying conditions; must report discrepancies to maintenance and supervisors so they can adjust equipment and controls in accordance with established operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide support in blend prep and viral vaccine blends processes: racking glass bottles, filling waters, moving equipment into and out of blend fabrication room, cleaning blend room, breakdown/clean up after blend fabrication.
  • Adheres to production schedules and ensures that all tasks are performed in a timely manner.
  • Transports supplies from main office to building 3 storage rooms for use: unboxes them in foyer and breaks down cardboard boxes to avoid bringing them into production areas.
  • Assist in supply inventories – keep track of low supplies and make request through appropriate channels to procure supplies keeping laboratory stations and production areas stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Maintain hood cleaning records and LN tank levels: must file paperwork in proper places after new record placed at the beginning of each month.
  • Retention expectation: employees must be able to retain skills and competency of production processes through detailed training, then execute training with minimal oversight once training is concluded

Experiences and Qualifications:


Essential:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree: preferred study in Biology, Chemistry, Animal Science, or related field.
  • Proficient math and computer skills (including MS Office)
  • Detail oriented, and reliable as displayed through expected attendance practices and behaviors.
  • Good command of the English Language.
    Must be able to read, understand, follow, and comply with technical and written documents. Must be able to document all required information clearly and accurately into batch documents.
  • Autoclaving experience – such as aseptic and sterilization preparation and packaging, setting up loads for autoclave.

  • Physical requirements include stooping, bending, standing, climbing, and lifting of between _10_ lbs – _50_lbs.  
  • Must be able to perform calculations using mathematical formulations.
  • Highly motivated and able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Desirable:

  • Previous aseptic laboratory technique experience
  • General knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices 
  • Experience in cell and viral production
